Your data stays yours.

FindSpot is local-first. Your saved finds, GPS coordinates, photos, permissions and landowner details stay on your device unless you choose to export, share or submit them.
What we collect
FindSpot does not require an account, login or profile. You can use the full application without providing personal information.
All private records you create in FindSpot — finds, permissions, session records, photos, notes — are stored in your device's own local database (IndexedDB). They do not leave your device unless you export, share or submit them.
Local storage only
Stored on your device
Finds, permissions, boundaries, landowner details, detector settings, photos, session records, agreements, coverage tracks.
Not automatically transmitted
Find locations, landowner names and contact details, permission status, field boundaries, photos and detecting history are not synced to a FindSpot account or uploaded in the background.
We have no account database containing this private fieldwork. We cannot see your saved finds, saved permissions or landowner records unless you choose to send something through an export, share or form submission.
Club and rally data
FindSpot includes a Club Day and Rally mode that allows organisers to collect finds from members at the end of a dig. This only happens when you explicitly choose to send that export.
When a member taps "Send to Organiser", their session export is transmitted via Web3Forms to the organiser's email address. No data is stored on FindSpot servers. The organiser's email is the destination.
Club and rally listings submitted via the registration form are also transmitted through Web3Forms for manual review before publication.
No tracking or analytics
FindSpot does not use analytics, tracking pixels, session recording tools or advertising networks. We do not track your location, behaviour or usage patterns.
The website uses no third-party tracking scripts. Website forms are sent through Web3Forms only when you submit them.
Data backups and export
FindSpot provides full backup and export tools. You can export all your data as a JSON backup file at any time from the Settings screen. You remain in complete control of your records.
If you uninstall the app, your local data will be removed along with it. We recommend keeping regular backups.
External data sources
FieldGuide analyses your permission area using external landscape and map datasets. Online features may request map tiles, search results, landscape data, club/rally listings or form details you enter. Those requests are separate from your locally saved find records and permission records.
